Connecting To SMTP

Prev Next

An STMP server connection is required to send end users the mobile enrollment message, smart card renewal updates, and PIN expirations or updates.

This setup requires backend access to the MFA app server.

Setup

  1. On your MFA server, open the MFA Admin Portal and log in as an administrative user.

    • Note: The one_sys_admin user (or user with the one_sys_admin role) is recommended as it has rights to everything within the portal.
  2. Go to the Settings tab.

  3. In the main window under the Global Settings menu, click Update Mail Server Settings.

    🛑 Remote Access Error

If you receive the error "This page cannot be accessed remotely!" then you are not logged into and accessing the Admin Portal directly from the server.

  4. Provide the necessary information to connect the MFA server with the SMTP server.

    • Note: You can change the port to meet your network requirements (like port 587).

    ℹ️ SMTP Without Credentials

If your SMTP server does not require a username/password:

    1. Copy/paste the Default "From" Address to the Username field.
    2. For both Password and Confirm Password, type a single lower-case x
  5. Click the Update Mail Settings button.

    • Note: This will prompt for an iisreset to complete these steps.

Troubleshooting

If you are still receiving errors when sending SMS or emails to users:

  • Try changing the port number
  • Verify the information you provided, as well as the username and password if there is one
  • Make sure you are able to ping the SMTP server from the MFA server to verify connectivity
  • If inputting the SMTP server name does not work or ping properly, but the IP address does, you can try updating the hosts file with the SMTP server's IP and server name
